A Visit to YCHC’s New Reading & Research Room
Presented by Dr. Adam Bentz, Director of Library & Archives
Dr. Adam Bentz, Director of Library & Archives, will give a detailed tour of the York County History Center's new reading room and closed stacks areas. He will focus specifically on genealogy resources and the benefits of the new facilities. Please bring questions related to operations and resources. Following the tour, SCPGS attendees will have an opportunity to tour the new museum exhibits—please make sure to fill out the sign-in sheet before entering the museum. Adam will be available for questions, but the exhibit tour will be at your own.
Adam T. Bentz serves as Director of Library & Archives at the York County History Center. He started at the YCHC in 2019 as Assistant Director and was previously employed as Archivist & Librarian at the Lebanon County Historical Society. He earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in History at Lehigh University and a B.A. in Historical Communications at Lebanon Valley College. He currently serves on the Pennsylvania
Historical Association Council and the State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB). He previously served on the editorial board of thePennsylvania History journal. In addition to his public history work, Dr. Bentz has taught as an adjunct instructor since 2008.

Adam Bentz, Director of the Library and Archives, presented a power point on the Library and Archives holdings to review all the materials that are available for researchers. He covered the commonly used materials, such as the family files, vital cards, and cemetery cards. Adam reminded people about the new surname index, and how to use past perfect. Various collections such as Family Bibles, the Civil War Soldiers Database, Postcards and others. Special collections available for research include scrapbooks, letters, diaries, maps and business records. The Library is also a Family Search affiliate library. The presentation included a tour of the Archives section (which is off limits to the public) and the Library Reading room. The Library Reading room has tables with electrical outlets for personal laptops. Computers are also available in the library for access to databases. WiFi access is also available. There are lockers for bag storage. There is a small room that can be reserved for small group meetings or research. An area outside of the library in the main building is available with table and chairs for individuals to eat food they’ve brought or purchased from local eateries.
