The South Central
Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, Inc. is a non-profit organization of
genealogists. As genealogists, we study our ancestry and family
history, and are also interested in preserving our family heritage for future
generations.
Our primary geographical area of interest and coverage is York and Adams
County, Pennsylvania.
Our Aims and
Purposes
Our aim is to encourage and promote an interest in genealogy. We do this
by:
 |
Collecting and preserving materials related to genealogy.
|
 |
Encouraging the compiling and publishing of family genealogies and
histories. |
 |
Publishing materials of
interest and benefit to members, as demand and finances allow.
|
 |
Holding meetings for the
education of our members and the public. |
 |
Offering financial and volunteer
support to the library of York County Heritage Trust (formerly The York County Historical
Society). |
Since we are an
all-volunteer organization, only simple member research requests
accompanied by a business size SASE are considered.
A Surname File of
interest is maintained for members.
Newsletters
The society’s monthly newsletter is called
OUR NAME’S THE GAME and is mailed to all members. Included in this
publication are listings of future programs and events, queries from
members (at no charge), notice of publications by other organizations
and individuals that may be of interest, and occasional short articles
dealing with genealogical research.
Special Publications
Members also
receive, as published,
Special Publications, which vary in length,
and contain
genealogical resource material. Most of the information is previously
unpublished primary source material.
A list of
available publications and their prices is sent to each member as well
as can be found on this website.
PLEASE NOTE:
The S.C.P.G.S. is an all-volunteer and non-profit organization; we are a
separate society from York County
Heritage Trust, therefore your membership in the S.C.P.G.S. will not
obtain you free access to the York
County Heritage Trust Library.
